Lyrics
Her gaze is fixed upon mine
Looking for something lost to time
All I know is how I feel right now
That just ain’t good enough, somehow
She said;
Find yourself some trusty chords
Take these hollow words back home
Just find something to say
Would it be easier to forget
Spend my day living in regret
Nothing seems right, right now
That just ain’t good enough, somehow
She said;
Find yourself some trusty chords
Take those lengthy words back home
Just find something to say
She said;
Find yourself some trusty chords
Take those empty words back home
Just find something to say
But I don't need no small talk
I ain't got, I ain't got time for small talk
And I can't stand no small talk
Especially not today
She said;
Find yourself some trusty chords
Take those empty words back home
Find something to say
She said;
Find yourself some trusty chords
Take those lengthy words back home
Just find something to say
Oh, find yourself, find yourself
Those trusty chords
And take your hollow words back home
Find something to say
A song about love in all its ambiguity and complexity. These lyrics try to speak out above 'honeyed words', to cut through pretense and find true meaning only to fall on silence.
I wrote Small Talk from this viewpoint and it's transformed over the years. Yet, for me, it still holds impact.
I could continue to describe what this song means to me, but it's hard to put it into words... it's difficult to find something to say.
Can you put your feelings about Small Talk into words? Let me know in the comments below.
